Taiwan's September Jobless at a 15-Year High

TAIPEI Taiwan's September jobless rate rose to a 15-year high of 3.1 percent due to a continued depression in the economy, the Central Statistics Office said.
The September jobless rate was 3.1 percent 304,000 people 0.06 percentage points higher than August, the highest since September 1985, when it was 3.62 percent.
"The main reason is the depression. Among the unemployed, 7,000 lost their jobs because the companies or factories they worked for closed," directorate general of budget, accounting & statistics said.
"If the economy does not improve, our jobless rate for the year will be adjusted from 2.85 to 2.92 percent and next year's jobless rate will be above three percent," it said.
